Home Vs Wake Green Youth |
|
The teams first home game for a while and a leisurely afternoon KO for a change. The squad a little short in numbers as both Mahad and Jordan recover from nasty injuries and a few unavailable lads. The confidence from the cup win the previous week really showed in the first half as the team managed to create a number of chances by playing some neat football on the ground unfortunately our lads can be easily drawn into playing the opposition do and we did have passages of play whereby the ball did spend a great deal of time in the air and off the pitch.
Freddie was quickly off the mark with a neatly taken strike down low on the GK from a pass from Ollie K and then Matt P scored a lovely goal with a drive from the edge of the box, again when ever we played football and passed to our own players ( how simple it is then) we destroyed the opposition. Their Gk had to make a couple of smart saves and corners were just missing flying heads when a long clearance on the floor by their gk was met first time about 30 yards out by Andy who drove the ball back with interest right into the corner his first for Holywell.
The lads were now rampant and the confidence was flowing we even had a few balls played across the back.. steady on lads! Then a great move from back to front with Ollie H and Taniya involved and a square ball from Taniya met by Ross on the top of the box and he side footed home into the corner.
Then to finish the 1st half off Freddie again was too quick and strong for his central defender and was allowed to run through to score past the gk. 5-0 at half time and time to give the squad a real run out so more changes were made to ensure players on the side line were given a good 40 mins. Wake Green had re organised at half time and had closed some of the holes, but as our lads were now over playing and trying to score that fantastic Arsenal goal with 30 passes we were unable to add to our score, but once again the defence held firm with a clean sheet as concentration in these sorts of games is difficult, but again we do make it hard for ourselves when we over complicate play.
At the end of a disappointing 2nd half where their were plenty of chances to take the score higher the final result was 5-0 all credit to the opposition for battling on and making the 2nd half a tougher challenge for all. |
