Away Vs Olton Ravens B

A sunny spring morning saw Derrell S make his full league debut following a good performance the week

before. For the second week running Matt P was able to get on the score sheet three times, 2 good headers and a well placed shot against a team with only 8 players.  Olton scored first with the Holywell lads still trying to realise how to play when they had 3 spare men!  All credit to Olton lads as they ran their socks off chasing everything down and doing the simple things well.  Once the lads got the ball wide and a few passes along the ground in their moves they were able to open up the Olton defence a lovely move down the right started by Derrell resulted in a great cross from Wesley it was missed by Dexter, but met on the full by Matt P `s head to even things up.  Their goal then lived a charmed life with shots flying wide and poor finishing, but throughout our defence was nervous as defenders hit the ball long into spaces for forwards to chase.  Then another ball split the defence and Matt P ran on to score in the corner a few more scares for our defence and with Joe F in goal distributing to our defenders feet we should have done better a ball out to Ollie H onto Ross and out to Wesley who played in Dexter who held off a player to score 4-1 at half time.  Some tough talking at half time and away we went again subs were used again to make sure players in the squad were used but almost immediately our defence had switched off expecting some one else to deal with a high ball and a misplaced header resulted in a lovely pass to their forward, who gleefully slotted in the net. Mahad playing in midfield showed his energy as he arrived late in the box to score with a neat strike into the roof of the net 5-2.  Unfortunately Mahad later suffered a badly broken nose in a challenge in midfield which resulted in a 3 hr visit to hospital. Mahad said “he would have carried on if it did not hurt so much”   plenty of blood and a very interesting swelling!  A further lapse in concentration at the back with a misplaced pass coming out of defence gave an easy chance to Olton, the game then saw a number of further chances with a couple of one on ones and last second bobbles on the dry pitch resulting in misplaced shots when it was probably easier to score.

The game finished 5-3 to Holywell.  Again we wish Mahad well on his road to recovery.
